Hi everyone, at the moment we have 58 children on the literacy prog and we are going full steam ahead. If you have any other pupils who you think may need help with their reading, writing and/or spelling please let me know as we are already in May and especially Y8 pupils need to get things sorted befor they go off to high school.
"Reading Together"
The Monday sessions with parents were very successful even though not many parents could make it.
In session 1 we looked at the Pause, Prompt and Praise strategies that parents can use when helping their children at home with their reading
In session 2 we had a talk from Kay Hall the childrens' librarian @ Rotorua Public Library about books for our age group.
In session 3 I talked to the parents about the STAR and PROBE tests and we went through them together so they had some idea about what their children are expected to know/do in their reading.
In session 4 we will be meeting at the Rotorua Public Library and Kay will be giving us a tour of the library.Parents will also be asked to evaluate the programme and give feedback as to how I could make the sessions better.
A big thanks goes to the Tutlewski family who attended every session and recieved 2 twenty dollar book voucher from Whitcoulls for Nathan and Monique who also attended the sessions and made valuable contributions.
Looking ahead.I wil be running the sessions again next term but will have to evaluate the time the are on as 4-5 in the afternoon does not seem to suite many parents.
Maybe in school time.
Many thanks to my team of support staff, Bruce, Judy and Rae who supported me with these sessions. You are great.
In term three I will be repeating
